An Iowa City man who was living at a Cedar Rapids halfway house after being charged with multiple assaults has been charged with assault there.
According to the Department of Corrections, 29-year-old Eric Guise was at the Lary Nelsen Center after being convicted of two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations and assault with bodily injury or mental illness. On Friday, Guise was allegedly observed via camera making threats of violence towards another resident.
The footage was reviewed after another resident asked residential staff for support, and reported that Guise had physically assaulted him. The resident showed staff red marks on his chest and reported a more public verbal threat that was verified by the footage.
Guise was returned to the Johnson County Jail and advised that he would not be able to return to the Lary Nelson Center due to a “keep separate” order involving the victim.
Guise remains in jail on a cash-only bond on three violation of probation charges.
