Eight candidates have applied so far to fill a vacancy on the Iowa City school board.

Jayne Finch resigned late last month after an argument with fellow school board member Lisa Williams during a meeting on August 19th.

The board chose to fill the vacancy via appointment versus holding a special election. Eight people had applied for the position as of Friday, including former teacher Alisa Meggit, University of Iowa senior Drake Riddle, lawyer Audrey Moeller, Iowa City Public Library community and access services coordinator Sam Helmick, former teacher Peter Byler, former district parent Kent Christen, district parent Michael Hamelton, and former educator Doug Kollasch.

Applications are still being accepted through Wednesday. For more details, go to the web site iowacityschools.org.
