Iowa man arrested for alleged assault of convenience store employee and officers faces additional charges

An Anita Iowa man arrested early Monday after allegedly assaulting a convenience store employee, threatening to shoot staff members, and assaulting police officers faces additional charges after threatening medical personnel and other officers.

After being arrested on assault causing bodily injury, 1st degree harassment, public intoxication, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations and two counts of interference with official acts causing bodily injury, 28-year-old Jerry Carr was taken to the main campus of University of Iowa Health Care for treatment. While being transported, Carr allegedly threatened to shoot, kill, and rape officers and their families.

While at the ER, Carr reportedly made several terroristic threats in a loud and agitated manner, heard by a number of staff members. He allegedly threatened to return with a gun and a bomb and kill everyone in the emergency room. Carr also reportedly threatened to kill a different officer, his spouse and their children.

Carr now faces three additional counts of 1st degree harassment, and one count of threat of terrorism. Adding in the earlier charges, he could now be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
