Gas prices have dropped in the past week.
According to Gas Buddy’s survey of over 2000 stations in Iowa, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $3.92, a drop of over 16 cents from the previous week. The price is nearly 7 1/2 cents higher than a month ago, and remain $1.08 higher than the price a year ago.
The national average dropped just 3.2 cents last week and now is at $4.01 Diesel prices also dropped slightly, to a national average of $5.570 a gallon.
Patrick DeHaan, petroleum analyst at Gas Buddy, attributes the drop to an oil deal the Trump administration made with Venezuela. However, he says any benefits from increased Venezuelan output will take years to materialize. DeHaan adds that the immediate impacts on prices remain the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, and continued Ukranian attacks on Russian oil refineries.
