Hundreds of Iowans are being removed from voter rolls across the state, as county auditors attempt to remove voters who either haven’t voted in some time or have moved away.
KCRG TV reports Linn County held a hearing last week to review voter registration challenges. Five people attended, which officials said was a large turnout compared to past hearings.
One of those attending had her registration challenged because someone in Maine has the same name. Patricia Bowen told the station, “there has to be more evidence required than just a computer search.”
495 voter registrations have been filed in Linn County so far this year, more than double the number of challenges combined in all of 2022 and 2023.
Four people are behind most of the challenges.
Linn County Auditor Todd Taylor removed 422 of the 495 challenged votes, most because the voters moved away and didn’t notify the auditor’s office.
