An Iowa City man was arrested after causing hundreds of dollars in damage to his Successful Living residence.
Police say that just after 2am Friday, offers responded to the residence on Bedford Court on reports of a fight. The caller stated that his housemate, later identified as 42-year-old Michael Ritter, was breaking things and trying to kill him.
When officers arrived, Ritter reportedly emerged from the residence, admitted “I did it” and that officers were there for him.
Ritter allegedly took a hammer to several doors int the residence, windows on the front door, andat least three computers and computer accessories. He also took a hammer to his housemate’s locked door, causing significant damage. The caller said that he feared he would be assaulted by RItter if he was able to get inside his room.
Damage estimates exceeded $1500.
Ritter was charged with Going Armed with Intent, 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, and 1st degree Attempted Burglary. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
A no-contact order was requested between Ritter and his housemate.
