Transient accused of stealing patio chair from Iowa City restaurant

An area transient was arrested after she allegedly stole a patio chair from a downtown Iowa City business.

The incident occurred the evening of July 24th outside Quinton’s on East Washington Street. According to police, 44-year-old Rihana Alamin was recorded on video as she stole a metal deck chair. The video reportedly shows her waiting for bystanders to pass before taking the chair. She then fled eastbound.

The chair was valued at $80.

Alamin has a history of theft convictions, including 5 counts in 2025 alone. A warrant was issued for her arrest August 12th and she was charged with 3rd degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
