A Coralville murder trial has been pushed back to next summer.
48-year-old James Martin is accused of stabbing his wife, Amber Martin, to death at the couple’s Spring Rose Circle residence on January 16th. Previously released records show Martin had allegedly plotted to kill his wife in the hours leading up to the stabbing. Coralville Police say Martin grabbed a kitchen knife, ambushed his wife as she was walking out of a room, and stabbed her repeatedly. Martin’s mother walked in on the stabbing and tried to stop him, but Amber Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.
James Martin later reportedly said he killed his wife to “put her out of her misery”. Investigators say the couple was in serious financial trouble and did not believe they could recover.
Martin is charged with 1st Degree Murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
Martin’s trial was originally scheduled to begin on October 6th. But this wek Judge Elizabeth Dupuich granted a continuance in the case, and that date has been pushed back to July 13th.
A case management conference is set for January 8th.
