A Wheatland man faces possible jail time after allegedly possessing a weapon when he was driving while revoked.
Iowa City Police were conducting traffic control last Wednesday night just before 10pm when they reportedly observed 25-year-old Ruger Hute of 112th Avenue making an improper right turn at the intersection of Linn Street and Highway 1.
A check of Hute’s driving record showed his status as revoked for OWI test failure until September of this year. He was asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, and he admitted that there was a pistol inside.
A probable cause search allegedly turned up a Sig Sauer pistol. As he was driving while revoked, Hute was ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon. He was charged with driving while revoked and person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon. If convicted on both charges, Hute could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
