A Cedar Rapids man who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation faces prison time after he was reportedly found with drugs.
Police conducted the stop in the parking lot of the Heartland Inn on the Coralville Strip Tuesday evening just before 11:30. 41-year-old Casey Kelso of 8th Street SW was in the back seat of the vehicle and was reportedly identified as being wanted on a warrant.
Kelso was searched, and police allegedly found 2 bags containing a substance consistent with methamphetamine, and a pipe containing drug residue. The vehicle was also searched, and an additional bag with the same substance was found under the seat where Kelso was sitting.
A check of Kelso’s criminal record showed two possession convictions from Wapello County in 2018 and 2019. He was charged with a third offense, which is a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
