An Iowa City cyclist was charged after a stop by an officer for disobeying a traffic sign led to the discovery of meth on his person.
The incident occurred at 2:20am Monday near the intersection of I Street and 2nd Avenue. 45-year-old Norman Norfleet of the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street was reportedly observed operating his bike without illumination and failing to obey a stop sign.
Upon contact, Norfleet was given a warning for the traffic violation, and consented to a search of his person. Officers allegedly found a marijuana smoking pipe, a baggie of meth, and a zip lock baggie of cannabis.
A check of the serial number on the bike Norfleet was operating found it has been reported stolen out of Iowa City.
Norfleet was arrested and charged wtih meth possession, marijuana possession, and 3rd degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
