Three Iowa City men face Riot charges after County Jail incident

Three Iowa City men face prison time after allegedly participating in a riot at the Johnson County Jail.

The incident occurred shortly after 8pm Thursday in the B Block of the jail. According to deputy reports, 20-year-old Francois Parker, 18-year-old Malachi Thomas and 21-year-old Darion Brown-Lewis engaged in a physical altercation simultaneously with a victim.

The victim’s injuries were serious enough that they required medical treatment at University of Iowa Health Care.

Parker in the county jail on numerous charges relating to a shooting at occurred May 26th, 2025. Thomas is incarcerated for a parole violation, and Brown-Lewis faces previous charges of interference with official acts causing injury, marijuana possession, and two parole violations. They each have been charged with Participating in a Riot, a Class D Felony punishable by up to five years in prison if convicted.
