An Iowa City man was arrested early Friday after allegedly assaulting his wife and operating his vehicle while intoxicated.

Police received a 911 call from a crying female, who reportedly was not forthcoming with information and then sounded like she was running. The call was lost, and a sheriff’s deputy went to check out the scene.

Upon arrival, they noticed a vehicle pulled out of a lot at the Breckenridge Estates Mobile Home Park and back in again, and it was surmised that the driver was looking for the female.

Deputies went back to the residence several minutes later and came upon 36-year-old Allan Romero Castellanos on top of a female on the front porch. The female was identified as Romeo Castellanos’ wife. Witnesses alleged he hit the woman in the face causing a bloody cut under her eye.

Romero Castellanos reportedly showed signs of intoxication including the odor of ingested alcohol, unsteady balance, and bloodshot watery eyes. A PBT showed his breath-alcohol level at .184 percent.

Romero Castellanos was taken into custody and charged with OWI 1st offense and Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury. He could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.
