Johnson County deputies investigating an accident arrested an Iowa City man for operating his vehicle while under the influence.

The incident occurred just after 2:45am Monday. Deputies were dispatched to the 4600 block of Oak Crest Hill SE on reports of a single vehicle accident with the vehicle on fire. They made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Justin Jenkins of South Gilbert Street. He allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol and had trouble with comprehension, following directions, and holding items.

After showing measurable impairment on field tests, Jenkins provided a PBT showing a breath-alcohol level of .280 percent, over three times the legal limit. He refused a Datamaster test.

Jenkins was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to a year if convicted.
