US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth joined Republican US Representative Zach Nunn at the Iowa State Fair Monday.
Nunn, hosted his annual campaign fundraiser at the JR’s Southpork Ranch after having to postpone the event in March. when two Iowa soldiers were killed in an Iranian strike on a Kuwait facility on March 1.
Hegseth spoke on the anti Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies and renaming the DOD the Department of War. Iowa Capital Dispatch reports Hegseth said, “at the Department of War, we do training, not trannies,” adding that the changes made are a day and night difference.
Hegseth told fairgoers that he honored the Iowa soldiers killed in Kuwait, while adding that the US-Iran conflict was necessary to keep Americans safe. He encouraged Iowans to support reelecting Nunn to the US House.
Nunn’s opponent, Democratic state Senator Sarah Trone Garriott issued a statement criticizing Nunn and Hegseth, quote, “partying together at a campaign stop in Iowa while our service members are under threat and facing poor conditions overseas.”
