Cedar Rapids Police make arrests following weekend car chase

Cedar Rapids Police have made multiple arrests in regards to a weekend car chase involving two vehicles.

According to a release from the City, Police responded to numerous 911 calls regarding two vehicles engaged in a chase and possible displays of weapons on the 1500 block of 8th Street SW just before 7:40pm Sunday.

Officers located two vehicles, one of which had run off the road, and both with damage. There were multiple people involved and witnesses described one driver running their vehicle into the other, forcing it to hit a tree.

Following interviews and investigation, four people were arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail. They include 26-year-old Jaylan Bentley of Cedar Rapids, charged with child endangerment, reckless driving, no driver’s license and a one-way traffic violation; and 27-year-old Lanya Wright of Cedar Rapids, charged with Child Endangerment.

Two residents of Matteson Illinois were also arrested. 30-year-old Lawrence Jefferson was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and an outstanding warrant. 25-year-old Lamora O’Neal was charged with Child Endangerment, Obstruction of Prosecution, Reckless Driving, failure to use child safety restraints, and a one-way traffic violation.
