A local non-profit is taking steps to help reduce the need for more quality child care in Dubuque.

Dubuque Initiatives has reportedly finalized a deal that will transform the site of a former health care company into a new child care center.   The Telegraph Herald reports Dubuque Initiatives has purchased the former Medline building on Chavenelle Road for 2.5 million dollars and will turn it into a childcare facility for parents in the region to use. It’s estimated the center will have 120 openings, with an eventual maximum capacity of 225.

Leaders of the effort say the goal is to have child care available in the building by the end of 2023. The facility will be run by Dubuque Community YMCA/YWCA
