A reported assault involving laundry detergent has led to an Iowa City woman’s arrest.

The incident in question allegedly occurred just after 5:00 on the night of June 27th. Iowa City Police say 27-year-old Shyawna Collins of the 501 Apartments on Southgate Avenue threw a plastic cup full of detergent at a staff member at the facility, causing them to be covered in detergent.

Collins was charged this week with Assault – Insulting or Offensive Contact. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 30 days in jail. Trial is set for October 6th.

Collins has a lengthy criminal history, including being accused of breaking into Gay & Ciha Funeral Home on Muscatine Avenue twice in 2023, squatting in a garage on Miami Drive that same year while claiming it was her residence, and threatening someone with a knife at a residence on Davis Street in 2022.
