A Cedar Rapids man is accused of providing drugs to his juvenile nephew in Iowa City.
Iowa City Police pulled over 32-year-old Sergio Carias Flores of College Park Court SW just before 2:00 Saturday morning for driving without his headlights activated on Highway 6 near Sycamore Street. A red Solo cup with alcohol was reportedly found in the cup holder, and a baggie of marijuana was allegedly located in plain view on the floorboard.
Carias Flores and his nephew were asked to leave the car so a full search could be conducted. Officers say they found an empty baggie of marijuana in the glove compartment and three THC vapes under the juvenile’s seat. Carias Flores and the juvenile reportedly also had THC vapes on their person.
Police say Carias Flores showed signs of intoxication and had a breath alcohol level of .159%.
Carias Flores allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana with the juvenile earlier in the day. He’s now charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Drug Distribution to an Underage Person, and Possession of Marijuana. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 27 years in prison.
Carias Flores is also being detained for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
