University of Iowa Health Care has announced a planned upgrade to the 12th floor of the Stead Family Children’s Hospital, known as the place patients wave to fans at Kinnick Stadium during home football games.
Construction bid documents provided to the Cedar Rapids Gazette show the $600,000 project will update finishes and design elements that reflect the tradition of “The Wave” on the floor, which features the “press box,” a mediation room and healing garden.
The hospital says the space is used daily for patient activities, and hosts over 350 events each year. They include trainings, conferences, and visits with legislators, donors and other VIP groups.
UIHC officials say the goal is to “create a welcoming space that brings moments of connection, encouragement and joy to children and families during their health care journeys.”
