An Iowa City man was arrested last month after allegedly passing out in his vehicle while it was parked at a convenience store.
At around 8pm on October 21st, 41 year old Lonnie Clark of Aber Avenue was allegedly at the Maverik location on South Riverside Drive, passed out with the engine running for about ten minutes. Upon contact, there was suspicion of impairment and an investigation began.
Clark reportedly had slow speech and unsteady balance. He also swayed while standing. He denied having any alcohol, and a PBT showed no alcohol on his breath. Clark was then asked to roll up his sleeves, and suspected injection sites were allegedly found on each arm.
Clark was placed under arrest, and post-Miranda admitted that he had used a heroin-like substance earlier in the day. A DRE expert determined that Clark was believed to be under the influence of a narcotic.
Items in the vehicle were field tested by police and they returned with a presumptive positive result for fentanyl. a vial of Sustanon, which contains testosterone, was reportedly found, and is considered a Schedule II controlled substance.
Clark was charged with first offense OWI, two counts of controlled substance possession 3rd or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over 11 years in prison.
