A Black Hawk County man is in custody after allegedly confessing to killing his grandfather.
The county sheriff’s office was called to a home on Elk Run Road for an unknown reason Saturday evening. KCRG TV reports that when deputies arrived, they found 75-year-old Gale Anthony Mervin dead, and 21-year-old Eric Paul O’Connell II hiding in another room.
Officials say there was a sign of struggle in the home.
O’Connell was taken to the hospital for examination. The sheriff’s office says that’s where he confessed to killing his grandfather. The two had been living together.
O’Connell faces life in prison without parole if convicted of 1st degree murder.
