Waukon City Clerk Sarah Snitker has successfully earned her Certified Municipal Clerk Certification through the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association (IMFOA), demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence in municipal financial management and professional development.
The IMFOA state certification program is designed to ensure continuous educational commitment among municipal professionals, helping establish and maintain competent administration for city governments across the state of Iowa. Through a structured curriculum, participants complete coursework covering areas such as budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Courses are offered regularly as part of the certification program and include both foundational training for municipal officials and advanced instruction for city clerks and finance officers. Individuals may pursue certification in several professional tracks.
IMFOA officials say by earning this certification, Snitker has demonstrated proficiency in these core competencies and a dedication to upholding high standards of accuracy, transparency, and accountability in public service.
The Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association supports municipal professionals statewide by providing education, certification, and networking opportunities that promote sound financial management and effective local governance.
Snitker says she will continue to apply the knowledge and skills gained through the IMFOA certification program to support the financial health and operational success of Waukon. She shared that to apply for certification, she had to be a member of IMFOA for three years, be in her position of City Clerk for three years, complete 100 hours of education from specified curriculum – mainly through the Municipal Professionals Institute (MPI), and attend at least one IMFOA conference within the last four years. Certifications expire four years after approval, so to stay certified she will need to complete 60 educational hours during that time and attend at least one IMFOA Conference.
