An Iowa City man was arrested earlier this month after allegedly being caught on a Flock Camera, vandalizing a Flock Camera.
The incident occurred just before 11:15pm August 6th on the 400 block of North Clinton Street. 21-year-old Alex Rattenborg of South Johnson Street arrived and parked just north of Currier Residence Hall. He approached the Flock license plate reader affixed to a pole on University of Iowa property.
According to police, Rattenborg dismantled the top half of the pole, forcing the Flock reader system to fall to the ground. He then allegedly returned to his vehicle and left the scene.
Damage to the Flock camera was estimated at $1000.
Rattenborg was identified using multiple layers of security technology, including surveillance camera footage and the Flock camera he reportedly damaged. When located, Rattenborg reportedly stated they were the only driver of the vehicle captured on video, and admitted to damaging the camera.
Rattenborg was arrested Thursday and charged with 3rd degree Criminal Mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in jail if convicted. He posted bond and was released pending arraignment.
