Manchester’s longtime city attorney is resigning.
For over thirty-five years, Jim Peters with Peters & Longmuir, PLC of Independence has represented Manchester and several other communities throughout northeast Iowa.
In a letter to the City of Manchester, Peters says as their practice continues to grow, they’ve concluded that it is in the best interest of both their clients and their firm to narrow their areas of practice, noting that decision will enable their firm to deliver more specialized legal services to meet the specific needs of their clientele.
“We have been honored to represent your community,” Peters said in the letter. “We value the relationships we have established and take pride in the service we have provided.”
Their services as Manchester’s City Attorney will end December 31st.
Manchester Mayor Connie Behnken, City Council and staff have expressed their appreciation to Peters for his years of service.
In their search for a new City Attorney, City Manager Tim Vick says they are sending out RFPs (Requests for Proposals) to law firms this week.
