The Independence Fire Department was dispatched to a UTV on fire next to a structure in the 2000-block of 310th Street on Friday afternoon.
Departments from Rowley and Quasqueton Fire were also dispatched to assist. On scene, crews found that the UTV had been pulled away from the structure in an effort to keep it from becoming involved. Crews worked on extinguishing the UTV, cooling the structure, and checking for extension into the building. Once the fire was under control, crews started overhauling operations on the structure and found that there was slight fire extension into the building. Crews finished the overhaul and checked the rest of the building with thermal imaging cameras to ensure no further extension was found.
During the investigation, it was found that the UTV was being used to work in a nearby field. They returned to the property to retrieve an item when they discovered fire coming from the UTV.
No injuries were reported.
