The Foundation for the Trades organization has announced grants to area schools that are in need of consumables and equipment for their industrial art and tech programs.

According to a release from the Iowa City-based group, less than half of Iowa schools offer industrial arts and tech programs. Their goal is to increase awareness, opportunity, education and budget in the Industrial and Technology curriculum across schools in the state.

The 3rd annual grant awards gifted $20,000 to schools in a 16-county area. 39 school districts, totaling 87 junior and senior high schools were invited to submit their grant applications to the Foundation for the Trades by September 1st.

Local schools that were awarded grants include Kennedy High School and the Student Build, Clear Creek Amana High School, City High, Southeast Middle School, Liberty High School and the Student Build, Lone Tree High School, Muscatine High School, West Branch High School, Wilton Senior High School and Williamsburg Senior High School.

This year’s awards bring the total in grants over the three years to $48,000. More information is available at foundationforthetrades.org.
