A suspect in a robbery on the Ped Mall has been given a suspended sentence as part of a plea deal.
21-year-old Andrue Cunningham of Cedar Rapids was initially charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, which is punishable by a maximum of ten years in prison. That charge was pleaded down to 3rd Degree Theft, and earlier this week Judge Elizabeth Dupuich handed Cunningham a two-year suspended sentence.
Cunningnham and 20-year-old J’Mirrion Walton…also of Cedar Rapids…were accused of robbing a man outside the Iowa City Public Library at around 1:45 on the morning of June 15th, 2025. The two reportedly got away with the victim’s phone, wallet, and cash. Surveillance video from the area reportedly shows Walton and Cunningham leading the victim toward the library, then running from the area shortly afterward.
The 2nd Degree Robbery charge against Walton was dismissed in July.
