US Senate candidate Ashley Hinson launched “Sheriffs for Hinson,” a coalition of current and former Iowa sheriffs endorsing her campaign.
According to a release from her office, Hinson accused her opponent, Democrat Josh Turek, of putting dangerous illegal immigrants before Iowans. She said Turek voted to give welfare benefits to illegal immigrants and to restrict Iowa law enforcement from working with ICE to detain and deport criminal illegal immigrants.
One of the sheriffs in the coalition, Webster County sheriff Luke Fleener, said in the release, “After four years of open borders under the Biden administration, the last thing Iowa needs is a liberal who would reopen our borders representing our state in the US Senate.”
Hinson’s coalition currently consists of 44 county sheriffs and 4 former county sheriffs. Among those supporting her include the sheriffs of Cedar, Fayette, Jones, Muscatine, Scott and Washington counties.
