RNC Chair points to Iowa as key to holding GOP congressional majority

Iowa’s congressional races are drawing national attention as Republicans and Democrats prepare for the midterm elections.

Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters visited Iowa this week to open two GOP ‘Victory Offices,” saying that US House races in the state are a major reason for the investment.

Gruters told Iowa’s News Now that the RNC is paying particular attention to races in the 1^st and 3^rd congressional districts. In the 1^st, incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks faces Democrat Christine Bohannan, while in the 3^rd incumbent Zach Nunn faces Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott, currently a state senator.

Citing Iowa’s role in winning the presidency, Gruters said, “Now Iowa’s the place you gotta go if you want to hold the majority.”

Pundits are calling races in the state anywhere from leaning Republican to a toss-up.
