An Iowa City woman was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly causing an accident and then leaving the scene.

According to court records, 47-year-old Gezwa Dinz of South Dubuque Street failed to yield to a cyclist crossing the street at the intersection of Dubuque and Burlington streets and struck the rider with the front of her vehicle.

The cyclist fell off their bike and landed in the street. Dinz reportedly left the scene immediately and refused to return despite being told by witnesses that she needed to.

The cyclist sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

Dinz was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident.  She remained in the Johnson County Jail on a $2000 cash-only bond as of Thursday afternoon.

If convicted on the charge, she could be sentenced to up to a year in jail. She will be arraigned at a later date.
