A drunk driving suspect is accused of injuring an Iowa City Police officer while being detained.

An officer responded to a reckless driver report on Lower Muscatine Road and Kirkwood Avenue at 8:00 Friday night. The suspect vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Kirkwood Avenue and Dodge Street. Police described the driver…27-year-old Dakota Vancil of Hills…as “obviously intoxicated”. His breath alcohol level was measured at .195%, and Vancil was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.

Once at the Iowa City Police station on East Washington Street, Vancil allegedly became unruly and had to be handcuffed to a bench.
