A Cedar Rapids man who left his child alone inside a car parked outside the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort has been given a one-week jail sentence.

Judge Daniel Kitchen made that ruling on Thursday after 39-year-old Enzo Morales of Cedar Rapids pleaded guilty to a Child Endangerment charge on August 11th.

Just before 12:45 on the afternoon of April 22nd, the reporting caller told the Washington County Sheriff’s Office that the child had been alone inside a running vehicle for well over an hour. A deputy had to unlock the vehicle to get to the child, then called for medical attention.

Washington County dispatch records do not indicate the age of the child or whether Morales was gambling inside the facility or was there for other business.

If convicted, Morales would have faced a maximum sentence of two years in jail. Instead, Kitchen sentenced him to 179 days in jail, with all but seven suspended. Morales was also fined $855 and given one year of probation.
