The Iowa City Community School District is beginning its search for a new leader.
At this week’s board meeting, they authorized a request for proposals from search firms and consultants specializing in superintendent and executive level leadership recruitment.
The Gazette reports the board expects to have a contract in place by November 10th to begin its search for the next superintendent.
The successful firm is required to have at least five years experience in Iowa with superintendent searches. Proposals should include a detailed plan including strategy, candidate outreach, screening and vetting.
The ICCSD is seeking to replace Matt Degner, who resigned the position June 30th. He is now the district’s executive director of secondary education. Amy Kortemeyer is the interim superintendent and has a one-year contract, giving the district ample time to find a permanent superintendent.
The district has taken steps to correct years of financial mismanagement, hiring new officials to reconcile years of accounts, change accounting procedures, and catch up on late audits.
