University of Iowa men’s basketball player Cooper Koch was apparently the good luck charm the Chicago White Sox needed in the team’s come-from-behind 6-4 win over the New York Mets Friday night.
Koch threw out the first pitch before Friday night’s game. The White Sox were down 4-0 in the sixth when the southsiders hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to tie the game in the 6th inning. Jake Rogers…who was batting .171 coming into the game…hit a walk-off home run for the win.
The White Sox had lost three of four games heading into Friday night’s game.
Koch and Hawkeye wrestler Nasir Bailey both inked deals with the CHISOX Athlete program earlier this year. The agreement allows signees to receive personalized mentorship from professional sports executives, branding opportunities across multiple White Sox platforms, financial incentives for social media promotion, and other amenities.
Former Iowa women’s basketball player Kylie Feuerbach was a CHISOX Athlete for three years. Those selected must have ties to Illinois. Koch is from Peoria while Bailey is from the Chicago suburb of Park Forest.
