Allegedly shooting himself in the leg while intoxicated at an Iowa City Taco Bell has led to a Minnesota man’s arrest.
29-year-old Rajae Jones of Hopkins was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9:00 Friday morning. Iowa City Police say Jones was at the Taco Bell on Highway 6 East just before 2:30 on the morning of May 14th, 2023 when he shot himself in the leg. Arriving officers say they found Jones sitting in a chair outside the restaurant with a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh. A handgun was purported found in the pouch of Jones’ hoodie, and a spent shell casing was on the ground in front of him.
Jones reportedly admitted he had been drinking, and that the wound was self-inflicted. His breath alcohol level was measured at .145%.
Jones is charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail.
