Several local riders are among the 20,000 to 30,000 riders on this week’s RAGBRAI – and they’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces today as they head into Delaware County.
Manchester residents Roger Lake and Ann Wilson-Bries are two of them who joined in on Thursday between Marshalltown and Independence.
Lake and Wilson-Bries have been enjoying one of the perks of RAGBRAI – all the great food.
And they’re looking forward to making their way to Manchester today.
The two friends say there’s one thing in particular that keeps them coming back to RAGBRAI.
Masonville native Jerry Houlihan, who lives in Cedar Rapids, is on this year’s ride too. He says between the hills and the heat, the ride was a rough start on Sunday from Onawa.
He’s been camping all week, including for last night’s stay in Independence.
Houlihan will turn 80 years old this September. This is his 10th RAGBRAI.
Houlihan says he’s going a few miles out of the way today to stop in his hometown of Masonville.
On Saturday, RAGBRAI will leave Dyersville and head past the Field of Dreams Movie Site for the first time before making its way to Farley, Epworth and Centralia and ending in Dubuque. Houlihan says he’s looking forward to dipping his bike tires in the Mississippi River.
