A Hills man who was given a deferred judgment on a Grooming charge is now accused of violating his probation by chatting with a 15-year-old online.
27-year-old Mark Zogg-Kellett of 2nd Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 10:00 Friday morning. Zogg-Kellett was on probation and is currently listed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry after he pleaded guilty to one of six counts against him earlier this year.
Iowa City Police say in September and October of 2024 Zogg-Kellett used an online profile in an attempt to entice girls he believed to be 12, 14 and 15 years old for sex.
Zogg-Kellett was initially charged with three counts each of Attempt to Entice a Minor and Grooming. If convicted on all charges, he would have faced a maximum of 21 years in prison.
As part of a plea deal, Zogg-Kellett pleaded guilty to one of the Grooming charges with all other counts being dismissed.
But the Iowa Department of Corrections now claims Zogg-Kellett violated his probation when he admitted to having a sexual-themed online chat with a 15-year-old last Tuesday.
Grooming carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
