A local transient allegedly took it upon himself to make some aesthetic improvements to the University Capitol Center…but UI Police say he did so without permission.
According to arrest records, 29-year-old Christopher Bertling…who lists his address as Shelter House…painted a handrail inside the former Old Capitol Mall on the afternoon of May 29th. UI Police say Bertling had no permission to do so from University Capitol Center management, and the cost to repair the handrail is estimated at $800.
Bertling is charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
