Employees traveling on county business will be receiving a little higher rate from now on.
The board of supervisors in Adair County voted Wednesday, June 22 to up the per-mile amount they give drivers.
The matter was discussed the previous week but action required a revised resolution be drafted then approved by the board.
The discussion came up because the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rate will climb to 62.5 cents per mile at the beginning of July.
The resolution passed calls for all county employees to receive the new IRS rate. According to county policy, Veterans Affairs transport drivers will receive 10 cents greater than the IRS rate.
At the meeting Tuesday, June 14, Auditor Mandy Berg shared her concern that election workers, because of the important nature of their work, should be receiving a higher rate for mileage.
County engineer Nick Kauffman has also shared the difficulty fuel prices and other costs are putting on the secondary roads department.
In other county business, the board:
• Approved a longevity salary increase, from 65 to 67% of Treasurer Brenda Wallace’s salary, for Bethany Smith
• Approved township clerk wages, homestead and military disallowances and a child abuse prevention grant draw down
• Received a Veterans Affairs budget update from John Schildberg
