An Iowa City man who allegedly assaulted the pregnant mother of their child last year has been taken into custody.
According to court records, the incident occurred during the midnight hour on November 21st. According to the victim’s testimony, 25-year-old Daivon Long forcefully entered her Town and Campus apartment on Arthur Street and threw her out of the residence and into the balcony railing where she nearly fell 15 feet to the ground. During the alleged assault, Long punched her and pulled her hair. The woman stated that she experienced pain and was still sore later that day when she made the report.
A detective located surveillance footage of the incident, and a witness reportedly told authorities that Long said that he didn’t even want the baby and that he should throw her off the balcony.
At the time of the reported assault, the woman was 7 months pregnant with Long’s child, and a no-contact order had been issued the previous month.
A warrant was issued November 25th, and Long remained at large until he was arrested Wednesday morning. He faces charges of 1st degree burglary, domestic abuse assault on a pregnant woman, assault on a person with a protective order, and first degree harassment. If convicted on all counts, Long faces a prison term of up to 37 years if convicted.
