An Iowa City woman has been arrested after allegedly renting bouncy-houses with stolen credit card information.
According to court documents, on Father’s Day and Independence Day this year, 30-year-old Shanyce Hill ordered bouncy house rentals for parties she helped organize, using stolen credit card information. She allegedly admitted to organizing the parties but denied ordering the bouncy houses.
An investigation determined the phone numbers and emails used to order the rentals are numbers or accounts either owned by Hill or assigned to her juvenile children. It was also reportedly confirmed that Hill rented the space in City Park for the 4th of July party. She also allegedly took possession of the generator used to power the bouncy house and provided by the rental company after the event.
Authorities say the names on the rental agreements are pseudonyms. It’s unclear how Hill obtained the stolen credit card information, but one of the victims still had their physical card, so it is likely the numbers were purchased online or stolen virtually.
The rental company lost over $800 from the Father’s Day incident, and over $500 on the 4th of July due to the alleged fraud.
A warrant for HIll’s arrest was issued October 1st; she has been charged with two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, and one count each of 3rd and 4th degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, Hill could be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison.
