1. ABORTION: THE BABY’S BREATH LIE
When discussing abortion, Sand suggests the Bible teaches that a baby is not alive until it takes its first breath. That’s a lie. The preborn baby is alive. The Bible verses Sand cites simply show that God gave life to Adam, to the dry bones in Ezekiel’s dream, and to us. The Bible teaches that, before birth, we are formed by God. Before birth, Jeremiah was ordained as a prophet. Before birth, John the Baptist moved in his mother’s womb. Obviously, God was not forming or ordaining babies that were dead. John the Baptist wasn’t dead when he moved. The Bible teaches babies are dead until they are born and take a breath? It’s just another Rob Sand Lie.
On October 13th, Sand compounded the lie on the Simon Conway show by denying he said the Bible teaches life begins at first breath. Q. (CONWAY) “Quoting the Bible, you said life begins at first breath? Is that your take? Is that what you personally said?” A. (SAND) “No. And that’s actually not what I said.” Sand claimed he did not make this statement at a town hall in Carlisle, when he had a conversation with Gary Loeffler on abortion, although the question was not limited to Carlisle. https://whoradio.iheart.com/featured/simon-conway/content/2026-10-13-92-simon-conway-rob-sand-10132026-the-simon-conway-show/ . The transcript of the video of the Sand conversation with Loeffler shows that Sand replied, “There’s a lot of folks who believe what Gary does. There’s also many verses in the Bible that say that life begins at breath. Life is life to breath.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HslT2cq_2n8 . This was also reported in The Atlantic and the Indianola Independent Advocate. Sand made similar statements on Twitter in 2018 and repeatedly made such statements in the 2018 campaign.
2. ABORTION: THE “PEACEMAKER” LIE
After a voter informed Sand that “God’s word says that you must protect life from conception”, Sand actually argued that the Bible teaches a baby is not alive until it is born and breathes. Sand then claimed he was a peacemaker, like Jesus Christ, because he could call the voter his brother. That is a lie. Sand supports abortion, the killer of 63 million babies and was once endorsed by Planned Parenthood. Christ warned of a dire judgment for those who harm “one of my little ones.” Abortion advocates are peacemakers? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
3. ABORTION: THE “LITTLE GUY” LIE
Sand compares himself to Jesus Christ, because he is for “the little guy”. But Sand supports killing the littlest guy of all, the preborn child. Sand supports abortion which has killed 63 million American babies. Rob Sand for the little guy? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
4. RESIDENCY: IF YOU VISIT YOUR CHILDREN, YOU ARE NOT AN IOWAN LIE
Sand claims that Zach Lahn lives in Kansas. That’s a lie. Zach Lahn lives on his family farm near Belle Plaine, Iowa. Zach Lahn does fly to Kansas to visit his children. Does that mean Zach lives in Kansas? Are you kidding? Parents who visit their children out of state are not Iowans? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
5. RESIDENCY: ZACH LAHN WAS IN KANSAS MORE THAN IN IOWA LIE.
Rob Sand and his party claim that Zach Lahn spends more time in Kansas than in Iowa. That’s a lie. The Democrats linked to a Des Moines Register article discussing Zack Lahn’s flight records to support their false claim. But, the article actually showed Zack Lahn spent far more time in Iowa. This article shows that, from October 1, 2025 to May 14, 2026, Lahn’s plane spent 75 nights in Witchita, Kansas versus 51 nights in Belle Plaine plus 44 nights in other Iowa towns plus “about a month . . . in Des Moines”. So this equals roughly 51 + 44 + 30 = 125 nights in Iowa versus 75 nights in Kansas. This period included 32 weekends and Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. It’s hardly surprising that Zack Lahn would spend 75 days with his minor children during this time. If, for some weekends, he left Friday night and returned Monday morning (3 nights), the weekends alone easily account for 75 days in Kansas. He also spent time in Iowa outside of Belle Plaine because he was campaigning for governor. Rob Sand lied, immediately after saying he wasn’t going to lie, by not counting 74 days when Zack Lahn’s plane was in other parts of Iowa than Belle Plaine. By counting only Belle Plaine, Rob Sand lied by ommission, stating that Zach Lahn was in Kansas 75 days and in Belle Plaine for 51 days, as if Belle Plaine were the only town in Iowa. Zach Lahn spending more time in Kansas than Iowa? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
6. RESIDENCY: THE KANSAS LIE – WHAT LEGAL ACTION WOULD SAND HAVE UNDERTAKEN IF HE COULD ACTUALLY PROVE ZACH LAHN LIVED IN KANSAS?
If Sand could prove Lahn lived in Kansas, he would have persuaded a Benton County voter to challenge Lahn’s voter registration, probably a six week process at most to the auditor’s decision.
A county auditor finding that Lahn didn’t reside in Iowa would have a devastating impact.
Sand would then challenge the attorney general to investigate and prosecute Lahn for the felonies of making a knowingly false registration and voting twice illegally.
The Iowa Constitution requires that a candidate for governor be a resident of Iowa for two years. If Sand could prove that Zach Lahn was not a resident of Iowa, he would have taken legal action to have Lahn removed from the ballot.
None of this happened because (a) Sand has no proof, (b) a knowingly false challenge to a voter registration is a felony, (c) suborning a false voter challenge might yield discipline affecting Sand’s license to practice law and (d) Sand is subject to ethics rules that prohibit him from a filing a frivolous lawsuit with no factual basis. The failure to take any of these actions is consistent with the story that Zach Lahn lives in Kansas is just another Rob Sand lie.
7. SCHOOL VOUCHERS: NO PRIVATE SCHOOLS AVAILABLE FOR RURAL FAMILIES LIE
Sand claims “There’s no [private school] ‘choice’ for the families in rural areas.” An examination of state records reveals there are over 17,500 students from small town/rural school districts attending private schools. That’s over 40% of private school students. No private school choice for rural families? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
8. SCHOOL VOUCHERS: THE NO ACCOUNTABILITY LIE
Sand claims the private school voucher system has no accountability. That’s a lie. The state has the power to investigate, audit, and prosecute any private school that steals our money and to recover that money. No accountability for private schools? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
9. FINANCES: THE “LITTLE GUY” LIE
Sand claims he is for “the little guy”, but he is financed not only by his rich family, but also six billionaires including artificial intelligence left wing billionaire Reid Hoffman and pro-abortion and anti-religious freedom billionaire Deborah Simon. Rob Sand for the little guy? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
10. GUN CONTROL: ROB SAND IS JUST LIKE A REPUBLICAN ON GUNS LIE
Sand pretends to be the typical handgun owner, like a Republican. But Sand says he likes gun control, prefers a “may issue” concealed weapons permit system, supports universal background checks and claimed that ending the state handgun purchase background check “will get Iowans killed”. Iowa firearms murders actually went down after that check was eliminated. Sand is like a Republican on guns? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
11. THE WE SHOULD VETO “CULTURE WAR LAWS” THAT PROTECT IOWANS LIE
Sand will veto “culture war laws.” Does that include laws that protect children from abortion, sexually explicit books, gender mutilation surgeries, puberty-blocking drugs and wrong sex hormones, and protect Iowans from transgender, racist, and sexist DEI policies or indoctrination? Veto those laws? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
12. THE “PICKED MY POISON” LIE.
While claiming that he is just like Republicans, Sand said that he “picked his poison” by registering Democrat so he could vote in primaries. An Atlantic puff piece describes him as “A Democrat in Name Only’. Really? If you considered the Iowa Democratic Party a ”poison”, would your campaign give it $1.5 million a year? Would you personally give it $88350 over 10 years? Would you tell Newsweek in 2008 that “I’m more excited about Obama than I was about Dean.” Would you intern for Democrat Tom Harkin, work for the campaigns of Democrats Ed Fallon for governor and Denise O’Brien for Secretary of Agriculture? Would your campaign receive $2.5 million from the Democratic Governors Association? Would you be for gun control, abortion, legalizing marijuana, defend the Green New Deal, and veto all “culture war laws”? Poison? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
13. THE GOVERNOR REYNOLDS VIOLATED THE LAW BY BROADCASTING A COVID EMERGENCY PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT LIE.
During the Covid emergency, Rob Sand issued a finding that Governor Reynolds had violated the law by using federal funds to broadcast a Covid emergency public service announcement “Step Up, Stop the Spread”. The law forbade using federal funds to broadcast the image of statewide elected officials. But Sand ignored an exception for emergencies, which the COVID emergency actually was. The Iowa Campaign Ethics and Disclosure Board, both Republican and Democrat members, unanimously rejected the auditor’s argument and found Reynolds violated no law. Reynolds violated the law by making an emergency announcement? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
14. ECONOMY: IOWA IS IN AN ECONOMIC CRISIS LIE
Sand claims Iowa is in an “economic crisis”. That’s a lie. Iowa gets an “A+” for being the fifth most affordable state. It is the second most affordable state to buy a house. The sixth most affordable state to rent. It gets a B for its economy overall which is better than 26 other states. The inflation rate is 3.4%, 5% less than at this point in the Biden years. The energy inflation rate is 16.3%, too high, but 7.5% lower than the 23.8% under the Biden administration in 8/22. The unemployment rate is 3%. Iowa in an economic crisis? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
15. EDUCATION: IOWA IS LOSING TO NEBRASKA LIE.
Rob Sand says “We’re ranking below Nebraska [with respect to education], folks—completely unacceptable . . . We’re losing to Nebraska.” That’s a lie. According to Americadashboard.com, a data driven website comparing America’s states, Iowa ranks 9th in education, getting an “A” grade, and Nebraska ranks 20th, getting a “B” grade. Iowa losing to Nebraska on education? It’s just another Rob Sand lie.
