Iowa City murder suspect pleads not guilty

An Iowa City murder suspect has entered a not guilty plea.

20-year-old Denario Mobley is charged with shooting 38-year-old Christine Blount behind a South Lucas Street apartment building just after 2:30 on the morning of December 30th, 2024.

According to Iowa City Police, Mobley left his apartment on the 600 block of South Dodge Street, crossed the alley while armed with a 9mm handgun, and shot Blount as she was sitting in a vehicle parked behind 637 South Lucas Street. Blount later died at University of Iowa Health Care.

As a result of the investigation, Mobley faces one count of 1st Degree Murder. he entered a not guilty plea on Thursday.

If convicted, Mobley faces life in prison. His next court date has not yet been scheduled.
