President Donald Trump made a final stop in Iowa Sunday, two days before the midterm elections.
Trump was in Dubuque at the Five Flags Center, followed by a rally in Salinas Kansas. Trump won both states handily in 2024.
The president spoke for about two hours, and insisted Republicans were on the verge of sweeping victories on Election Day. The statement flies in the face of recent polling, which shows Democrats leading in key House and Senate races.
Trump was joined by US Senate candidate Ashley Hinson and gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn. The president commented on Hinson’s transformation from being a little heavier to what he called being “in perfect shape.” He quipped, “Me, I put on a couple of pounds.”
A solidarity mural outside the Five Flags Center that was covered up by the president’s campaign team ahead of his visit was taken down by order of the City of Dubuque, who said the City was not asked if the exterior of the facility could be modified and did not authorize its covering.
Over 54 million votes have already been cast ahead of Tuesday’s election. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina told NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday that Trump’s agenda, without any question, is on the ballot. Outgoing Republican US Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska told CNN’s State of the Union Sunday that there will be a debate in his party about its future if there are significant losses this week.
