A social media meetup gone awry has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
Iowa City Police say 26-year-old Isaac Pinnell was hosting someone he met on social media at his Bryan Court residence at around 2:30 on the morning of September 12th when the woman become uneasy with his presence. The woman requested a ride home because she was in an unfamiliar neighborhood and had no mode of transportation. Pinnell allegedly refused, and a physical altercation reportedly ensued that included Pinnell bear-hugging the woman and trying to take her downstairs. The woman suffered injuries to her fingers as a result.
The woman told police Pinnell refused to let her use her phone to call for a ride or for help. She was eventually able to text for help, and the police were summoned to the residence.
Investigators say Pinnell deleted all evidence of his encounter with the woman from his phone before they could arrive.
Pinnell is now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and False Imprisonment. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
