A North Liberty man has been arrested after allegedly absconding with funds earmarked for a non-profit volleyball club.

According to court records, 44-year-old Casey Hauan of Emory Place was the operator and the sole controller of the finances of the Iowa Vibe Volleyball Club between May and December of 2025. During that period, he collected over $158,000 in player dues, proceeds from merchandise sales, and tryout fees.

The revenue was collected for the operation of the club, including court rental, coaching staff, clothing and tournament fees. Investigators say Hauan collected most payments through the Square app and deposited them into his personal business account and never returned the funds to the club’s bank accounts.

It’s also alleged that Hauan used the club funds for personal expenses on multiple occasions, paying his rent, cellphone bill, entertainment expenses, and other personal uses, asl well as taking cash withdrawals.

Towards the end of November, board members of the club were informed that their bills weren’t being paid, and over $50,000 was owed. The board asked Hauan for the club’s financial records, but he refused. That’s when they filed a report with the North Liberty police.

An investigation confirmed that Hauan was using club funds for personal expenses.

Hauan reportedly began harassing a bank employee, creating a fake email account hiding his identity and making it appear to have come from a sporting regulatory committee. An email, sent to the employee and their employer on April 17th of this year, accused the victim of wrongdoing with the intent to annoy and cause harm to the victim with their employer. Hauan had been warned by North Liberty Police in February to stop all communication with the employee.

During an interview conducted on April 23rd, he allegedly admitted that neither he nor his business was supposed to profit from the club in any way and he was not authorized to collect compensation in any form.

A warrant was issued Monday; Hauan was arrested Wednesday morning. He’s been charged with 1st degree theft, ongoing criminal conduct and 3rd degree harassment. If convicted on all counts, Hauan could be sentenced to over 35 years in prison.
