Kitchen fire displaces resident in Cedar Rapids apartment building

A resident was displaced due to a kitchen fire in a Cedar Rapids apartment building.

According to a release from the city, fire crews were dispatched to the 1300 block of 15th Street SE Wednesday night just after 10pm on reports of a structure fire in a multi-family building.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 2-story structure with no fire showing. Entering the structure, they encountered smoke in the hallways on both floors. Crews then discovered a small kitchen fire that they brought under control within 8 minutes of arrival. Firefighters assisted occupants out of the structure and checked for additional hotspots. Once the building was aired out, occupants were allowed back into the building. The resident where the fire originated was displaced.

Fire damage was categorized as moderate. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was ruled as unintentional.
