An Iowa City man faces assault and felony attempted burglary charges after an early Saturday morning incident at his apartment building.
Iowa City Police were called to a possible assault at 923 Cross Park Avenue just before 5 a.m. Arriving officers say they found 36-year-old Stephon Washington…who lives in the building…staggering, slurring his words, and showing excitable emotions in the parking lot. Washington is accused of pulling a woman’s hair and pushing her. He then reportedly kicked the woman’s apartment door in an attempt to gain access and cause her more harm.
Washington is charged with 2nd Degree Attempted Burglary and Simple Assault. If convicted on both counts, he faces over five years in prison.
