
Bedford standout linebacker and four-year wrestler for Buena Vista University Michael Irvin, was inducted into the Buena Vista University Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 2 in Storm Lake. While attending Buena Vista University, Irvin was a three-year football starter for the Beavers and recorded 384 tackles. This is the most for any student-athlete in the program dating back to the year 2000. His senior year he was named a First Team All-American and also earned First Team All-IIAC honors, which was his second of two all-league honors. In 2004, Irvin recorded 148 total tackles, a school record.
Irvin was also a four-year wrestler for the Beavers wrestling program, winning nearly 40 matches during his first three wrestling seasons.
Besides being honored with athletic awards, Irvin was honored as a three-time Academic All-Conference in both football and wrestling. He also earned First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American honors in football in 2004 and in wrestling was a two-time Scholar All-American.
Irvin resides in Bedford with his wife, Janel, and their five kids, and is the secondary principal for Bedford Community Schools.
Others inducted into the BVU Hall of Fame Class of 2026 are Bill Naughton (Men’s Golf), Dail Fellin (Men’s Wrestling), Head Coach Janet Berry (Women’s Basketball, Golf and Volleyball), the 1979 Men’s Golf Team and the 1980 Men’s Golf Team.
The induction ceremony was held on the campus of Buena Vista University on Friday, October 2. The inductees were also recognized at halftime of the BVU Homecoming game on October 3.
